Les inondations peuvent entra\u00eener une d\u00e9vastation physique, des risques pour la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 des personnes, des menaces pour la sant\u00e9 humaine en raison de la contamination de l\u2019eau et la propagation de maladies d\u2019origine hydrique,\u00a0 et elles peuvent aussi avoir des effets n\u00e9fastes sur les \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes et entra\u00eener de lourdes pertes \u00e9conomiques pour les particuliers et la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 en g\u00e9n\u00e9ral.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Il y a deux grands types d\u2019inondation. Le premier, pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 ci-dessous, est l\u2019inondation c\u00f4ti\u00e8re, o\u00f9 les ondes de temp\u00eate jouent un r\u00f4le majeur, et le second type, ce sont les inondations \u00e0 l\u2019int\u00e9rieur des c\u00f4tes o\u00f9 les principaux facteurs en cause sont le ruissellement des eaux de pluie, la fonte des neiges et les emb\u00e2cles.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Inondations c\u00f4ti\u00e8res<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">L\u2019onde de temp\u00eate est une augmentation temporaire du niveau de la mer due \u00e0 l\u2019arriv\u00e9e de temp\u00eates et de vents forts.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Les ondes de temp\u00eate peuvent se produire \u00e0 mar\u00e9e basse ou \u00e0 mar\u00e9e haute.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Au cours d\u2019une onde de temp\u00eate, les vagues peuvent balayer des terres qui ne subissent pas habituellement l\u2019action des vagues.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Inondations \u00e0 l\u2019int\u00e9rieur des terres<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Les inondations \u00e0 l\u2019int\u00e9rieur des terres comprennent les inondations en eaux libres dues \u00e0 des pr\u00e9cipitations r\u00e9gionales d\u2019intensit\u00e9 mod\u00e9r\u00e9e et \u00e0 la fonte des neiges; les inondations locales dues \u00e0 un drainage inad\u00e9quat des eaux pluviales ou \u00e0 des nappes phr\u00e9atiques \u00e9lev\u00e9es; les crues soudaines dues \u00e0 la r\u00e9action rapide des bassins versants \u00e0 des pr\u00e9cipitations de forte intensit\u00e9; les inondations dues \u00e0 l\u2019obstruction totale ou partielle du d\u00e9bit (par exemple, les emb\u00e2cles); et les surcharges dues \u00e0 la d\u00e9faillance des obstructions du d\u00e9bit en amont.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Les inondations \u00e0 l\u2019int\u00e9rieur des terres dues au ruissellement des eaux pluviales se produisent lorsque de fortes pr\u00e9cipitations cr\u00e9ent de grands volumes d\u2019eau qui submergent les r\u00e9seaux de drainage (ponceaux, etc.) qui sont trop petits pour g\u00e9rer l\u2019afflux d\u2019eau.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Variations r\u00e9gionales\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">En Nouvelle-\u00c9cosse, les inondations \u00e0 l\u2019int\u00e9rieur des terres peuvent \u00eatre caus\u00e9es par des pluies torrentielles, des d\u00e9gels soudains et des d\u00e9faillances des infrastructures. Les plaines inondables comprennent celles qui longent la rivi\u00e8re Musquodoboit, les rivi\u00e8res Sackville et Little Sackville, la rivi\u00e8re East (Pictou), les rivi\u00e8res de la r\u00e9gion d\u2019Antigonish et celles de la r\u00e9gion de Truro.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00c0 l\u2019\u00cele-du-Prince-\u00c9douard, les inondations \u00e0 l\u2019int\u00e9rieur des terres r\u00e9sultent principalement de fortes pr\u00e9cipitations, souvent \u00e0 la suite de temp\u00eates extra-tropicales (restes d\u2019ouragans).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Au Nouveau-Brunswick, les inondations \u00e0 l\u2019int\u00e9rieur des terres surviennent essentiellement \u00e0 la suite de fortes pluies soudaines ou d\u2019\u00e9pisodes de pluie sur la neige, d\u2019emb\u00e2cles ou d\u2019une combinaison de ces facteurs. Les zones les plus sujettes aux inondations \u00e0 l\u2019int\u00e9rieur des terres (\u00e0 cause de l\u2019existence de zones inondables et de la gravit\u00e9 potentielle des inondations) se trouvent le long du fleuve Saint-Jean, c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire de Fredericton \u00e0 Lower Jemseg, le long de la rivi\u00e8re Kennebecasis (et de ses affluents), de la r\u00e9gion de Sussex \u00e0 Hampton, et \u00e0 proximit\u00e9 du ruisseau Marsh dans la ville de Saint John.
