Par cons\u00e9quent, la foresterie est devenue un \u00e9l\u00e9ment fondamental de l&#8217;\u00e9conomie du Canada atlantique.<\/p>\n<p>Les changements climatiques s&#8217;accompagnent d&#8217;une exposition temporaire des esp\u00e8ces d&#8217;arbres indig\u00e8nes \u00e0 des conditions atmosph\u00e9riques sous-optimales qui provoquent des p\u00e9riodes de stress. Chaque esp\u00e8ce d&#8217;arbre vit dans une certaine enveloppe climatique, c&#8217;est-\u00e0-dire un ensemble de conditions climatiques que l&#8217;arbre peut tol\u00e9rer. Les changements climatiques entra\u00eeneront une fluctuation de ces enveloppes climatiques dans un premier temps, puis une migration dans un second temps. Les arbres qui vivent \u00e0 la limite de leur enveloppe climatique subiront des changements de conditions climatiques plus fr\u00e9quents et \u00e9ventuellement permanents. Cela entra\u00eenera un stress pour certaines esp\u00e8ces, mais ces m\u00eames conditions fluctuantes pourraient \u00eatre favorables \u00e0 d&#8217;autres esp\u00e8ces d&#8217;arbres. En consommant des arbres et d&#8217;autres mati\u00e8res v\u00e9g\u00e9tales, les insectes et les micro-organismes forestiers contribuent \u00e0 une \u00e9volution saine et \u00e0 la r\u00e9g\u00e9n\u00e9ration des \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes forestiers. Ils aident \u00e0 renouveler les for\u00eats en \u00e9liminant les vieux arbres ou les arbres vuln\u00e9rables, en recyclant les nutriments et en fournissant de nouveaux habitats et de la nourriture \u00e0 la faune. Cependant, certaines infestations sont si graves qu&#8217;elles d\u00e9truisent ou endommagent de vastes zones de for\u00eats \u00e0 valeur commerciale, ou infestent les produits forestiers canadiens destin\u00e9s \u00e0 l&#8217;exportation. Les insectes et les maladies, qu&#8217;ils soient indig\u00e8nes ou exotiques, deviennent alors &#8220;nuisibles&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Au fur et \u00e0 mesure que le climat change, les insectes se d\u00e9placent vers de nouvelles aires de r\u00e9partition. Certaines esp\u00e8ces ont du mal \u00e0 s&#8217;adapter au nouvel environnement et ne deviennent pas envahissantes. D&#8217;autres s&#8217;en sortent bien, car elles n&#8217;ont pas d&#8217;ennemis naturels dans leur nouveau lieu d&#8217;implantation. Comme les ravageurs indig\u00e8nes, ils peuvent causer d&#8217;importants d\u00e9g\u00e2ts dans les peuplements purs ou dans les peuplements fortement homog\u00e8nes, o\u00f9 ils trouvent une importante source de nourriture disponible. L&#8217;un des principaux messages de la recherche foresti\u00e8re est que les changements climatiques entra\u00eeneront probablement des perturbations soudaines et impr\u00e9visibles.
